If I don’t do a bunch of other stuff at the same time, even on my 2014 Mac mini I can run one instance of GR6 Standalone reliably at 32 samples with a roundtrip latency well below 5ms. and well, suddenly my CPU was the bottleneck. and then treated myself to upgrading GR5 to GR6. I went with the Motu M2 (which was also known for very low latency). Used an Apogee Duet FireWire for a long time, but they stopped supporting it a few years ago and over time I saw more and more bugs, and this year I had to finally get something new. and could provide some sense of how many tracks/instances of GR6 can be used before the CPU is overburdened?Īh yeah, since I’ve been a “software only” guitarist for a long time I’ve always gone for lowest possible latency too. So I'm wondering if any of you are running Guitar Rig 6, in Logic (preferably – another DAW is probably a decent benchmark too) on an M1 Apple computer of either model. but if I could comfortably run say 10 instances of GR6 that'd be great – and make me feel comfortable "investing" in an upgraded Mac Mini for my home studio setup. I'm not expecting to be able to run 32 simultaneous advanced GR6 presets or anything. but I have no clue how that compares to Guitar Rig instances which are definitely very demanding. I've seen M1 reviews using Logic running hundreds of (other) plugins and software instruments. Recording with GR5 and "re-amping" with GR6 is an option in some instances, but it's far from optimal. "Freeze track" is a stopgap measure at best as it just introduces so much wait time in my process, interrupting flow and inspiration. but yeah, GR6 is much much nicer (both in sound, features and usability). With GR5 I used to be able to cover all my needs track wise (say 6-8 tracks of guitars and bass). as software instruments – yeah, it's rough if you do a lot of guitar layering as I do. Adding in some EzDrummer to that and potentially some synths/strings etc. maybe four tracks of GR6 (if I don't go for the most demanding presets) at a playable latency ( preferably <10 ms roundtrip – which means 128 sample buffer size on my Motu M2) before the CPU spikes and makes recording impossible. With GR6 in Logic Pro X, I can currently do three. But I still think the M1 should be able to provide a solid benchmark. but it's always good to plan ahead and budget for an upgrade when it does. I know the M1X/M2 aren't even announced yet. But I wanted some kind of input from people with M1's already on what kind of performance I might expect moving from an old dualcore i7 to a modern multicore cpu like the M1. We have only presented here the most effective and simple one.Upgrading from GR5 to GR6 has brought my 2014 (3.0ghz i7) mac mini to it's knees performance wise – so looking for a potential update to an "Apple Silicon" M1X/M2 Mac Mini if/when it's announced and released. Please note there are several different ways to insert instrument and effect plug-ins in Cubase. To show or hide the effect plug-in's GUI, click on its name in the Audio Inserts rack once. Guitar Rig 5 now shows up under the Instrument Name as Audio Insert effect.Click on an empty Audio Insert slot and select the effect plug-in you wish to load from the drop-down menu.Note: If you cannot see the Audio Inserts under the Instrument Name, click the Instrument Name once. In the Inspector, under the Instrument Name box (in this example, Massive), click Audio Inserts to open the Audio Inserts rack.To show or hide the instrument plug-in's GUI, click on the Edit VST Instrument button in the Inspector. In order to play the plug-in via your MIDI keyboard, make sure the Record Enable button is active. MASSIVE is now loaded in an Instrument Track automatically named Massive 01 where you can record or draw MIDI events that will control MASSIVE.Click Add Track to create a new Instrument Track for MASSIVE.In the Add Instrument Track window, open the Instrument drop-down menu and select the NI plug-in you wish to use.Right-click on the Track list in Cubase and choose Add Instrument Track.Note: To insert multitimbral instruments such as KONTAKT or MASCHINE, please read this article. Note: some NI products can be inserted both as instrument or effect plug-in (e.g. GUITAR RIG 5, SUPERCHARGER, etc.) as Audio Inserts. MASSIVE, KONTAKT, etc.) in an Instrument Track. This article explains how to insert Native Instruments plug-ins in Cubase, including:
